Reporting to you now from a remote corner of Canada, where the power is out, but the TV, SAT, Internet and phone are still on - thanks to the amazing power of "burning gas" in the generator. Lord, the sooner I can get this place on a all house battery, the better!
Is it ego? (uh yeah) - Is it homage? (definitely). I'm trying to build a version of the 2G Eclipse that Mitsubishi could have built as a factory prototype - An amalgamation of the best stock parts and minimalist modifications pushing out the specs of the original factory engine and chassis to...
Thank you - really. I find keeping a clean setup makes diagnosing issues easier. As soon as I see grease, oil, dirt whatever collecting - finding and ending the issue saves me from catastrophic failures and general unhappiness.
Slow down now - I upgraded to the AEM 3.5 bar for Speed Density back in December: LinkThere was a whole thing about signal noise at high rpm and such. This GM sensor came with the Autometer boost gauge, so I left it connected, just for the gauge.
At this point, I’d settle for a “working”...
I’m wondering if this is what they are supposed to look like. The sensor is in the square box filled with epoxy, the rest of this sensor is empty space with 3 wires from the actual sensor to a plug.I dunno - I call shiningans - I think this is a cheap knockoff
Now the work list - been a while since I've had a list.1. Install idler pulley - Done
2. Final Scrape/Clean block deck for head gasket - Done
*. Tap and Die clean cam cap bolts and threads - Done
*. Remove studs for 1G CAS and manifold bracket, use bolts - Done
3. Bolt Intake manifold to new...
In progress - not in a hurry.I have had for a while, 2 black PC’d intake manifolds, but the prep work wasn’t great before the PC, like 15 years ago. This one does not have an MDP bolted on it.
uhh, what does this mean:
"The threads were not the same as oem so I had to tap them out."The holes in the pan were not the same location? or you tapped new threads in the ???
The only threads in a pan would be for the turbo drain.
I’ll just put that 20g right here while we wait for an intake manifold gasket, and some new injector clips.I should find some 6mm studs for the oil drain. Its always a PITA to line up the gasket and bolts.I suppose I can finally update the vehicle profile - 20G is installed 🤤
Speaking of PC done right, I picked up the latest work from Rich - This is so coolLater you will see more of this billet plug cover - It is crazy good. The top surface of the grill is polished aluminum with clear on top, like the letters on the valve cover. Inside edges of the grill are...
with all 4 plugs? or only 2?
You're saying you have spark and fuel, but it won't start? - Describe your problem as it is now.Have you tried putting the plug wires from Cyl1 and 4 on Cyl 2 and 3? This inverts the coils - a typical thing to swap on the 1G in a 2G
Picture please of the adaptor and where it plugs in on both ends. Also, check for spark on each plug. I typically pull the wire from the plug and connect it to a spare plug, ground the threads and inspect for spark when cranking.
Very good. The Blacktop CAM sensor can also supply a crank signal if you find out that the 2G crank sensor is dead. How did you wire the Blacktop? There are 4 wires, Power ground and two signals. What of these 4 wires did you connect to the 3 wires in the 97 engine harness? What kind of ECU...
Ooof, well it would be interesting to know if there is metal degradation under it.Many questions:
Does it come off easily?
Is just iron reacting this way or is it all exposed surfaces?
I'll bet your WB02 gets some residue - do they last long?I'm guessing your fuel setup is way reactive -...
More information please (smacking my head with my hand)These motors can be made to work with various types of cam and crank sensors. What is your CAM sensor? Is it a 1G green top, 1G black top, 2Ga or 2Gb sensor? What is your Crank sensor? Is it a 2G sensor? Is it a Kiggly sensor on a 6...
More information needed - do you have:
Fuel pressure (does the pump run?)
Spark?
Injectors clicking? What are you using for a cam sensor and a crank sensor?
Cleanup the spare Intake manifold. This stuff is pretty good. Not too harsh, but it dried out the skin on my hands pretty quickly.
I did a little touch up on some sketchy powder coating. I don’t want to put too much time into this one. Normally I’d give it to Rich to do the PC the right way...
When you look at how the chambers of the turbine housing mate up to the o2 housing, it becomes clear why a 2G DSM o2 housing (even after porting) is a compromise. Big16G, or E3 16G mates best with the E3 o2 housing. When I finally got my hands on a E3 o2 housing it was easy to justify having the...
There are flavors of MHI Big16G. They are nearly identical. The number stamp on the compressor cover that completes the part number will give a clue where it came from - example “42” is from a typically from a Galant VR4, and “47” is from an Evo 3...
A real vs fake has more to do with reliability than performance.
The real exhaust turbine has high nickel content in the cast iron reducing the tendency for cracking, and the turbine shaft is likely to hold up longer, which will improve the chances to rebuild the components, vs throw them in...
It went on the block, March 2022, and driven less than 2000 miles, no track days, only street driving and 7500rpm redlines. I think the bearings are not good enough for a 4G63
